What happens
Jerry and his friend Jason Kent, two young people working around the circus, investigate a string of missing alfalfa from the horse tent. Late at night they watch an elephant slip its chain and carry a bale away, and the rest of the herd stays silent to protect it. They bring the matter to Olsen, the head elephant man, who agrees to look into the theft. Later, searching the caravan of a man named Lorenz, Jerry and his dog Rags find a metal piece that appears to have broken from a gun used in a robbery, raising suspicion against Lorenz.
A traveling circus, with its horse tent, elephant quarters and performers' caravans, at dawn and in the hours before the matinee.
Characters: Jerry, Jason, Olsen, Lorenz, Rags
Listen for: Listen for the elephants' silence when the chained elephant leaves the herd, and for the moment Jerry finds the metal piece in Lorenz's trousers.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
