What happens
Jack Benny is on a strict diet while preparing a new picture, and his cast mates tease him about it and reminisce about their childhoods. The program then turns to a Mark Twain adaptation, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, which Benny plans to perform with the cast in two parts. Tonight's installment introduces Tom Sawyer and his half-brother Sid at Aunt Polly's house, then follows Tom on his way to school, where he meets Becky Thatcher and gets into a fight with a newcomer named Freddie Allen. This is the Jack Benny series, broadcast on May 22, 1938, with Mary Livingstone, Eddie Anderson and Phil Harris in the cast.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
