What happens

Jack Benny and his cast perform their own version of Ernest Hemingway's story The Killers on the Jack Benny Program, broadcast on November 24, 1946. Before the drama, Jack's car will not start, and Phil Harris gives him a ride to the studio, where Dennis Day and the quartet cause friction over the program's music. Mary Livingstone is away in Palm Springs. In the play, two gunmen enter a quiet lunchroom late at night and begin questioning Charlie and Curly, the staff, about the lunchroom's redecorating plans. The gunmen are played by Edward G. Robinson, who appears as a guest.

Characters: Jack Benny, Rochester, Phil Harris, Dennis Day, Mary Livingstone, Charlie, Curly, Blue Eyes

Listen for: Jack's car troubles and Rochester's account of the borrowed car, the quartet's argument with Jack, and Edward G. Robinson's gunmen in the lunchroom

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
