What happens
Jack Benny and his cast perform a comic radio program in which the studio is in an uproar over a car accident involving Rochester and a truck. Benny phones his lawyers, Harrington, Harrington, Harrington and Drew, to settle the damages, while Phil Harris reports on his night school studies and Mary Livingstone teases him about his French. The cast then stages a mock mystery, The Frightwig Murder Case, in which Benny plays Detective Captain O'Benny and Sergeant O'Reilly investigates the death of Homer J. Frightwig. Dennis Day, Don Wilson and Rochester take supporting parts in the skit. The broadcast was originally aired on January 25, 1942.
A radio studio in Los Angeles, and the fictional police headquarters and Frightwig home within the comedy mystery skit
Characters: Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Phil Harris, Dennis Day, Rochester, Don Wilson, Harrington, Drew
Listen for: Benny's telephone calls to his lawyers and the running gag about the damages claim, and the staged mystery where the cast takes turns playing suspects
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
