What happens

Jack Benny and his cast open the program with banter about the show needing new ideas, with Mary Livingstone, Phil Harris, Kenny Baker, Eddie Anderson and Andy Devine joining in. The gags move from radio rivals to Jack's violin plans and a song sung by Kenny Baker. The second part of the Submarine D1 spoof then begins, with Jack as Chief Petty Officer Butch O'Benny and Mary as a sailor on a submarine heading from Panama toward San Diego. Rochester is pressed into service, and the crew prepares for the voyage. The transcript breaks off as the submarine begins its journey, so the rest of the parody is not covered here. The 1938-02-27 broadcast aired on NBC and CBS Radio in the Jell-O series.

Listen for: The cast's running banter and the Submarine D1 parody, especially Rochester's razor-artillery story and the crew's reports from the submarine.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
