What happens
Jack Benny plays Scoop Benny, the editor of the Los Angeles Daily Bugle, in this 1952 episode of The Jack Benny Program, first broadcast on October 5, 1952. Jack has been in trouble with his sponsor after a mix-up over the time change, and the cast is rehearsing a mystery play about a newspaper reporter who solves a murder. Eddie Anderson, Mary Livingstone and Phil Harris are among the regulars in the cast, while the broadcast includes mix-ups over the script and the orchestra. Jack is asked to take on the commercial when Rochester goes to fetch the missing script, and the play begins with Scoop and his star reporter Bob Crosby investigating a phone call about a killing at the Stuffington house.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
