What happens

Jack Benny returns from a stay at home alone with his breakfast, while his valet Rochester is still away. A string of visitors interrupts him: the young Dennis Day with blueprints of an odd new house, Phil Harris with baby clothes and a tale from a parent-teacher meeting, and Mary Livingstone calling about a birthday gift for her sister Babe. Tax men then question Jack about his deductions. Jack settles in to read a book called I Was Shanghaied and finds himself aboard a pirate ship, where he is put to work and meets its captain. This part of the episode covers the story only up to that point. The episode is from the Jack Benny series, first aired on May 6, 1951, with Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Eddie Anderson and Phil Harris.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
