What happens
Jack Benny is on vacation in Palm Springs, where he is staying at the Racquet Club run by Charlie Farrell. Back in Beverly Hills, Rochester calls with news of a city election and a worrying rumor that Ronald Colman may sue Jack over the Oscar Jack lost. Jack tries to borrow an Oscar from Paul Lucas, who refuses. Meanwhile, the Palm Springs police captain arrives at the club after word that a well-known playboy, Townsend Trueheart, has been murdered there. Captain O'Benny questions the staff and guests and starts grilling the suspects one by one. The broadcast ends before the story is resolved. This episode is part one of a two-part mystery, broadcast from Palm Springs.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
