What happens

Jack Benny and his radio company rehearse a comic mystery in which Don Wilson plays a police sergeant and Benny plays a captain. Before the play, Benny and Wilson bicker over Wilson's salary demands, and Phil Harris and Dennis Day drop in with their own complaints and jokes. The sketch begins at police headquarters, where Captain Benny receives a call from Mamie, the box office cashier at the Paramount, about a man found shot. Benny and Wilson rush to the theatre, question Mamie, and search the building for the killer while the show's stage acts continue. The episode is part of The Jack Benny Program, broadcast in April 1941 on NBC and CBS radio, starring Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Eddie Anderson and Phil Harris.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
