What happens

Jack Benny prepares to leave Beverly Hills for New York, where he is due to do his television show. With his valet Rochester driving, he collects his friend Babe Livingstone, Mary Livingstone's sister, for the trip to the train station. Phil Harris and pianist Charlie Bagby are also heading east, and Dennis Day and his mother are on their way to the station too. The broadcast follows the group as they fix a flat tire and reach the station, where a series of comic mishaps and mix-ups delay the departure. Jack Benny's television show and his trip to New York are the focus of the evening's conversation.

Characters: Jack Benny, Rochester, Babe Livingstone, Phil Harris, Charlie Bagby, Dennis Day, Mrs. Day, Mr. Kitzel

Listen for: Jack's phone call to Babe and the car breakdown on the way to the station, followed by the ticket clerk scene

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
