What happens

Jack Benny is preparing for his radio broadcast when his valet Rochester announces he wants to leave, then backtracks after a raise is offered. Backstage, Benny's cast and guest Deborah Kerr gather, and Kerr discusses her film King Solomon's Mines. The episode then shifts into a comic jungle adventure in which Kerr's character hires a guide, Allan Quatermain, to search for her missing uncle. The episode is part one of a two-part Jack Benny broadcast from January 7, 1951, on NBC and CBS Radio, starring Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Eddie Anderson and Phil Harris.

A radio studio and dressing rooms at CBS before a live broadcast, and then a jungle in Africa in a comic radio adventure.

Characters: Jack Benny, Rochester, Don Wilson, Dennis Day, Phil Harris, Mel Blank, Deborah Kerr, Allan Quatermain

Listen for: Rochester's sudden threat to quit and the running joke about how Deborah Kerr's name is pronounced.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
