What happens
Jack Benny returns home after nose surgery and spends a quiet day recuperating while visitors call. His valet Rochester tidies the house and reads a diary Jack has kept in the hospital, which describes his stay and his odd experiences there. Jack's friends Mary Livingstone and Phil Harris drop by, along with Dennis Day, who brings a gift from his mother. Eddie Anderson's Rochester keeps an eye on his employer, and the household takes calls and visits throughout the afternoon. The Jack Benny Program aired on NBC and CBS Radio on October 23, 1949, with Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Eddie Anderson and Phil Harris in the lead roles.
Jack Benny's house in Beverly Hills, California, on the day he returns home from the hospital

Listen for: Jack's hospital diary entries read aloud by Rochester, and the running confusion over Phil Harris's sudden arrival with a bottle of brandy
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
