What happens

Jack Benny returns home from a successful engagement in San Francisco and finds his household and friends busy with their own affairs. His violinist Dennis Day announces he is quitting the show, while Bob Crosby calls from San Francisco, short of money and unable to leave with the band. Jack visits the library, where Don Wilson and the Sportsmen Quartet disturb the reading room with a song, and he picks up a science fiction book about a trip to Mars. The Jack Benny program aired on May 17, 1953, with Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Eddie Anderson and Phil Harris in the leading roles, broadcast on NBC and CBS Radio.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
