What happens
Jack Benny is at home in Beverly Hills, where his valet Rochester, Phil Harris and Don Wilson drop by, and Jack frets over a sculptor's statue of him. Phil announces he has bought a nightclub with his guitarist Frankie and wants a slogan for it. Jack is told the radio is playing a song by Larry Stevens. Later a reporter named Mr. Kearns visits to ask how Jack found Mary Livingston, and Jack begins to tell the story, which takes him back to 1932 and a department store in Los Angeles where Mary works at the hosiery counter. The episode is a Lucky Strike program broadcast on NBC and CBS Radio on March 18, 1945, starring Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Eddie Anderson and Phil Harris.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
