What happens
Jack Benny is late arriving at the studio, so guest George Jessel fills in as host. Jessel handles the opening banter with Don Wilson and Mary Livingstone while the cast waits. Benny's valet Rochester is shown oversleeping on a train, and Benny reacts to the delay in a radio broadcast heard on board. Jessel and Livingstone trade jokes about Benny's stinginess and his reputation. Abe Lyman's orchestra plays, and Dennis Day joins in. The program is a 1943 broadcast of the Jack Benny series, sponsored by Grape Nuts Flakes and heard on NBC and CBS Radio, with Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Eddie Anderson and Phil Harris among the leads.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
