What happens

Jack Benny closes his season on the air with a final broadcast featuring guest Deanna Durbin. Jack, Don Wilton, Mary Livingstone, Dennis Day and Phil Harris trade jokes about their season of touring, their debts to one another and their summer plans. Jack and Don bid the audience goodbye, and the cast reflects on fellow comedian Fred Allen, who remains on the air. Deanna Durbin visits the show and chats with the cast, and Rochester is preparing a farewell dinner. This is the 1943 season finale of The Jack Benny Program, first broadcast on May 30, 1943, on NBC and CBS radio.

A radio studio broadcast at the close of the season, followed by Jack Benny's home where a farewell dinner is being prepared.

Characters: Jack Benny, Don Wilton, Mary Livingstone, Dennis Day, Phil Harris, Rochester, Deanna Durbin

Listen for: Jack Benny's exchanges with Dennis Day and Mary Livingstone about money owed, and Deanna Durbin's visit to the show.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
