What happens
Jack Benny is joined by Mary Livingstone, Phil Harris and Don Wilson in this 1950 episode of The Jack Benny Program on NBC. Benny jokes about losing a television poll and fields Mary's phone call about a song Phil sings. He then prepares for a radio interview, recalling how he met his butler Rochester in 1937. Rochester, now a taxi driver, has had a minor accident with Benny's car, and the two sides argue over who is to blame.
Los Angeles, California, in a radio studio and in Benny's home, with flashbacks to a New York street and a garage in 1937
Characters: Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Phil Harris, Don Wilson, Rochester, Amos, Andy, Kingfish
Listen for: Benny's account of meeting Rochester in 1937 and the argument with the taxi company owners Amos and Andy
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
