What happens

Jack Benny is at home in Beverly Hills when his new electric dishwasher breaks the dishes, and his car is found flattened after a collision with a steamroller. He walks to the studio, where he gets a ride with a shabby stranger who claims to be a friend of the radio stars. At the studio, Jack finds the cast already running late, and Mary Livingstone is absent with a cold. Alice Faye is recruited to take Mary's place for a New Year's fantasy in which the old year, 1947, packs up and leaves while the new year arrives. The episode is broadcast on NBC and CBS Radio on December 28, 1947, and its cast includes Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Eddie Anderson, and Phil Harris.

Jack Benny's home in Beverly Hills, a city street and a bus stop, and a radio studio, around the end of December 1947.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
