What happens
Jack Benny is late for his Jell-O program on NBC, so the cast fills time while he tries to telephone his girlfriend Gladys Zybisco, a waitress whose name keeps being garbled by the operator. Phil Harris and Mary Livingstone joke on air as Benny is repeatedly cut off, and Don Wilson and Dennis Day wait with the orchestra. Benny finally reaches the show with news of a benefit broadcast in Oakland for President Roosevelt's infantile paralysis fund, and the episode turns to the trip north in Benny's car.
A radio studio in Hollywood during a live Jell-O broadcast, later Benny's home and a taxi ride.
Characters: Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Phil Harris, Don Wilson, Dennis Day, Rochester, Gladys Zybisco
Listen for: Benny's repeated struggle to get through to Gladys on the telephone while the cast improvises on air.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
