What happens
Jack Benny is angry with Mary Livingstone and Phil Harris after a joke at his expense, and he refuses to appear on the program until they leave the studio. Mary explains that Jack invited her to a preview of his new picture, George Washington Slept Here, at the Warner Brothers Theater. Jack insists on driving there in a horse and buggy, with Rochester handling the horse Leona, which proves unruly and keeps lying down in the street. Along the way they pick up Dennis Day, who is headed out on a date with Dorothy Lamour, and Jack presses him into coming along. The group bickers over the time, the horse and the ticket prices, and the episode builds toward the preview as the six o'clock deadline approaches.
Hollywood, California, in a studio broadcast and on the streets of Los Angeles around the time of the preview of George Washington Slept Here.
Characters: Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Phil Harris, Rochester, Dennis Day, Don Wilson, Leona
Listen for: The running gag of the unruly horse Leona lying down in traffic, and the countdown to six o'clock when ticket prices change.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
