What happens

Jack Benny, back from a summer trip, opens the new season with his usual mix of comedy and mock feuds. Dennis Day's trunk is delivered to Benny's house, and Benny insists on breaking it open, which upsets Mary Livingstone and Rochester. Dennis then appears, having come back from England in a trunk after losing his steamship ticket in a card game with Benny. Benny also explains that Phil Harris will not return this season, and that he is discussing a contract with Bob Crosby to take his place. Crosby visits Benny's house to talk over the contract, and the details of the agreement become a source of mild absurdity. The series is a radio comedy that aired on NBC and CBS Radio, and Benny starred with Mary Livingstone, Eddie Anderson and Phil Harris, with this episode first aired on 1952-09-14.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
