What happens

Jack Benny, newly hired as master of ceremonies for a General Tire program, meets the show's announcer Don Wilson and orchestra leader Don Besser, who has an odd resemblance to someone Jack can't place. Jack's friend Mary Livingstone visits the studio and mentions a former employer. Later Jack and Mary go to visit Frank Parker at his struggling music store on Eighth Avenue, where Jack hatches a plan to bring some excitement to the business and pulls in a series of customers. Eddie Anderson and Phil Harris are also part of the cast on this first broadcast of the series.

A radio studio for the General Tire program, and then Frank Parker's music store on Eighth Avenue.

Characters: Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Don Wilson, Don Besser, Frank Parker, Eddie Anderson, Phil Harris

Listen for: Jack's comic exchanges with the announcer Don Wilson and with Mary, and the store scenes where Jack tries to drum up business for Frank Parker.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
