What happens

Jack Benny, rushed by his holiday errands, takes Mary Livingstone along on a Christmas shopping trip through a crowded department store. Along the way he deals with a floorwalker, a clerk at the watch counter, a perfume salesman, and Rochester, who is shopping for neckties nearby. Earlier in the program, Benny and his cast trade jokes about his new western film at Paramount, the cast's on-air banter, and an old bet with Phil Harris. Dennis Day sings a song, and a short Christmas play is performed in which Benny plays Santa Claus. The broadcast was aired on December 17, 1939, on NBC and CBS Radio, with Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Eddie Anderson and Phil Harris in the lead roles.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
