What happens
Jack Benny broadcasts a radio show from New York City, with announcer Don Wilson and his valet Rochester. Benny jokes about President Eisenhower's golf game, Rochester's nervous makeup man at the television studio, and a fan club of four girls who come to sing to him. Georgie Jessel then arrives and delivers a welcome speech, before Benny and Jessel perform a mock biography of Benny's life, from his birth in 1894 through his violin lessons, vaudeville career, and move to Beverly Hills. The episode is part of the Jack Benny radio series, and the cast includes Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Eddie Anderson and Phil Harris. The show was originally broadcast on February 28, 1954, on NBC and CBS Radio.
A radio broadcast from the Lincoln Square Theater in New York City, with backstage scenes at a television studio and Benny's home in Beverly Hills.
Characters: Jack Benny, Don Wilson, Rochester, Georgie Jessel, Nate Hammerstein
Listen for: Benny's mock biography of his own life, performed with Georgie Jessel, and Rochester's report on the television rehearsal.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
