What happens

Jack Benny visits the Gardner Field army airbase in Near Taft, California, and performs for the soldiers stationed there. Mary Livingstone, Eddie Anderson and Phil Harris join him for a run of comic sketches about the base, the lake nearby, and a sweet wings presentation. Benny then tries to hire the singer John Charles Thomas for his radio show, first at home with Mary and then at Thomas's house, where the offers and bargaining become the source of the jokes. This is the Jack Benny series, and the episode was broadcast on October 15, 1944 over NBC and CBS Radio.

Listen for: Benny's bargaining with John Charles Thomas over a singing fee, and the running jokes about Phil Harris's signature and Rochester's cooking

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
