What happens
In the prairie town of Santa Mato, station master Ben Sears is haunted by guilt over a fatal train wreck ten years earlier, in which engineer Kirby Willis died. Sears believes Kirby's ghost has returned, telling him to stop the 11:55 train during the anniversary week. Sears's stepson Fred and the town supervisor Wilson watch him grow increasingly unbalanced as the apparitions continue. Wilson takes action in the morning, and the events of the night build toward a confrontation at the railroad bend.
