What happens
Carl Warner, a middle-aged man who keeps canaries, lives with his much younger wife Elaine in a quiet house. One night a visitor named Bruell, a former attendant at the Cragmount asylum, comes to the door and makes unsettling remarks about an escaped inmate who loved canaries. The next morning, Chester Bruell is found murdered nearby, and Carl is drawn into the investigation. Lieutenant Greg of the police questions him, and Carl grows increasingly nervous as he searches for ways to prove his innocence.
A residential house on Crescent Place, with a bird room where Carl keeps his canaries, in a town near the Cragmount asylum.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
