What happens

Chick, a pianist who plays in a nightclub, is threatened by Eric Sanders, a man who claims to be a student of murder and says he has chosen Chick as the victim of a perfect murder. Chick seeks refuge with a woman named Rita, who keeps him hidden in her apartment while Chick grows increasingly unsettled. Sanders sends Chick a book on murder, and the pressure on Chick mounts as he tries to make sense of the threats and his own state of mind. This Inner Sanctum Mysteries episode, written by Ed Adamson, stars Mason Adams as Chick and Everett Sloan as Sanders; it aired on January 12, 1948.

A nightclub where Chick plays piano, a fog-bound waterfront, Rita's apartment, and a hotel in the woods

Characters: Chick, Eric Sanders, Rita

Listen for: Sanders's chilling speech about the murderer and the murdery, and the question of what Chick actually sees and hears

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
