What happens
Reporter Willie Harper, on his first assignment for the Morning Blade, becomes fascinated by a nameless dead girl in the city morgue, whose only possession is a doll. Willie's search for her identity leads him to the artist Cousins, who knew the girl as Hazel Dauff and painted her with that doll. Cousins describes a mysterious figure called Carolina, and Willie begins to suspect a link between the girl's death and this man. The story is told in the Inner Sanctum Mysteries series, written by Fred Maethold, with Mason Adams as Willie and Ted Osborne as Cousins, and first aired on October 18, 1948.

Characters: Willie Harper, Jackson, McGrunley, Cousins, Carolina, Hazel Dauff, Inspector Shea
Listen for: The doll, which seems to make a sound when Willie tilts it, and the name Carolina spoken near the end
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
