What happens

Steve Farrow, a deep-sea diver, takes a salvage job with Captain Brody aboard the Gasco Bay, diving on a sunken freighter in the Keys. His wife Leila, who came aboard with him, pressures him to take the work. On an earlier dive, his partner Curly drowned after his air hose was cut, and Steve has been haunted by the sound of a ship's bell. The guide follows Steve on the wreck and the strange memories that return to him there. The transcript ends before the story is fully resolved. Inner Sanctum Mysteries, broadcast February 6, 1945, with Raymond as host.

A small seaside town and the Gasco Bay, then the sunken freighter Santa Elena off the Florida Keys, twenty fathoms deep.

Characters: Steve Farrow, Leila, Captain Brody, Curly, Andy Andrews, Chief McKenry

Listen for: The tolling of the ship's bell, nine strokes rather than eight, and Steve's growing dread on the wreck.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
