What happens

Joe, Jack and Jim run a music publishing business that takes fees from hopeful songwriters while delivering little in return. Waldo Fielding, a young hopeful from Simmons Corners, arrives in the city after sending them his poem, only to find his song unsold and his money gone. Newspaper reporter Larry Lowry and Britt Reid take an interest in his plight after a policeman finds him fainting from hunger. Meanwhile, Britt Reid suspects the publishers' scheme connects to the Green Hornet's old enemies, and the Hornet moves against the three men in their office. The Green Hornet series aired on June 1, 1939, and its lead actors are not named in this transcript.

A large city in the late 1930s, including a publishing office, an apartment, a newspaper office and a city street.

Characters: Joe, Jack, Jim, Waldo Fielding, Mrs. Fielding, Larry Lowry, Britt Reid, Miss Casey

Listen for: Listen for the three publishers' scheme of charging hopeful songwriters for worthless publishing, and the Green Hornet's first confrontation with them in their office.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
