What happens

Welfare board treasurer Bennett grows suspicious that Tinker, head of the welfare board, and his associate Murdoch are misusing the special charity fund. Bennett refuses to keep signing blank relief checks, and a desperate applicant named Drake pleads for medicine for his wife. Reporter Lorry and the Sentinel newspaper, led by Reed, press the matter, and soon Bennett vanishes along with the board's records. Reed, unconvinced of Bennett's guilt, takes up the role of the Green Hornet to look into the affair. Please note that this guide reflects only the first part of the episode.

A city in the late 1930s, with the offices of the welfare board, the Sentinel newspaper, and the homes of the Bennett and Murdoch families.

Characters: Bennett, Tinker, Murdoch, Drake, Reed, Lorry, Miss Case, Mrs. Bennett

Listen for: Listen for Bennett's suspicions about signed blank checks, Murdoch's slip when he is confronted, and the Green Hornet's first appearance at the Bennett home.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
