What happens
Britt Reid, publisher of the Daily Sentinel, and his valet Kato investigate a wildcat strike in the city that appears to be controlled from behind the scenes. Reid suspects a criminal mastermind known only as Mr. X, who has threatened a reporter from the paper. When the reporter Pat Carson is connected to the strike, Reid and Kato pursue leads through the union, where Gerber and his wife Mary are caught between loyalty and fear. Reid, who secretly fights crime as the Green Hornet, drives the Black Beauty through the night as events move quickly toward a union meeting. This episode, the first of a four-part story, sets up the conflict and the mystery of Mr. X.
A city in the 1940s, including the offices of the Daily Sentinel, the Reid apartment, a union hall, and a hunting shack outside town.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
