What happens
Britt Reid, publisher of the Daily Sentinel, and his valet Kato wake in their apartment to find it filled with smoke. Reid rescues a woman named Ruth Martell from a fire in the apartment across the hall, and her handkerchief becomes the center of the mystery. Reid's reporter friend Michael Axford helps him with the rescue, and the two men later find the handkerchief with a hidden message in braille. Reid and Kato work to decode it, looking for the woman and whoever is working with her. The Green Hornet is a radio series; this episode aired on January 8, 1944.
An apartment building in a large American city, with a hotel and a police headquarters.
Characters: Britt Reid, Kato, Michael Axford, Ruth Martell, Sergeant Burke, Werner
Listen for: Listen for the braille message on the handkerchief and Kato's reading of it, and for the Green Hornet's pursuit of the woman to the Sherwood Hotel.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
