What happens

Britt Reid, publisher of the Daily Sentinel, and his reporter Ed Lowry investigate a series of suspicious farm fires after farmer Kenton writes to the paper complaining of strange happenings. Lowry and Sergeant Burke travel out to the country, where a barn burns and the farmer's land is sold cheaply to real estate dealer Maynard. Meanwhile the Green Hornet, Reid's secret identity as a masked crime fighter, warns Kenton not to sell his farm. Reid suspects that someone has inside knowledge of where a new superhighway will be built, and Lowry begins pressing Maynard for answers.

A small city and the surrounding farm country, around the 1940s, where a new superhighway is being planned.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
