What happens

Gail Manning, a reporter for the Daily Sentinel, interviews Roy Conway, a Marine home on furlough, at the Conway home. Roy's parrot, Butch, is present during the interview, and Roy's father, Samuel Conway, is recovering from a cold. Roy has brought home an important report from the Conway War Plant, which is placed in a table drawer. Meanwhile, the Japanese valet Saki overhears the conversation and plans to obtain the report. Later, Samuel Conway is found shot dead in the living room, the report is missing, and Britt Reid, the Green Hornet, sets out with Cato to search for it.

A Marine bunk room aboard a ship returning from the South Pacific, then the Conway home and the Daily Sentinel offices in an American city during the Second World War.

Characters: Gail Manning, Roy Conway, Samuel Conway, Butch, Saki, Britt Reid, Cato, Michael Axford

Listen for: Pay attention to the parrot Butch and his role in the story, and to what the parrot repeats in the living room after the shooting.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
