What happens

Brett Reid, publisher of the Daily Sentinel, receives a letter from Tierney, controller, threatening to publish a story alleging a $50,000 shortage in the controller's office. Reid publicly challenges Tierney, but the rival Clarion scoops the Sentinel with a statement by Tierney himself. Madge Hartman, a clerk in the controller's office, comes to Reid with suspicions about Barton, a former convict. That evening, Madge is found shot in her farmhouse, and Michael Axford and Lenore Case discover the scene. Britt Reid and Kato take action as the police begin to question the suspects. Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
