What happens
Brit Reid, publisher of the Daily Sentinel, investigates when his newspaper's annual Neediest Families fund shows six families who received help last year now living in comfort. Secretary Lenore Case and reporter Michael Axford help him review the case histories, and Reid learns that the husbands of these families have all gone to prison after confessing to crimes. Reid's suspicions turn toward Ray Spencer, a nightclub owner who had been connected to a payroll holdup. The Green Hornet series is an old-time radio drama, and this episode is dated to September 18, 1940, with its lead actors not named in this guide.

Listen for: Reid's reasoning as he links the prosperous families to their imprisoned husbands and to Spencer.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
