What happens
Britt Reid, a young publisher who secretly fights crime as the Green Hornet, investigates the death of Hurley, a collector for a fraudulent old-age pension campaign run by Turnbull and Briggs. Hurley had threatened to expose the racket to the Daily Sentinel before he was found dead in his shower, and the police have called it an accident. Believing it was murder, Reid and his aide Kato begin to test that account. The episode is part of The Green Hornet series, which first aired on July 27, 1939.
A city in the late 1930s, centered on a pension campaign office, an apartment building and a downtown office tower.
Characters: Britt Reid, Kato, Hurley, Turnbull, Briggs, Buck, Laura
Listen for: Listen for Reid's deduction from the footprints left on Hurley's wet floor, and for the lead-up to the elevator confrontation.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
