What happens

Britt Reid, the publisher of the Daily Sentinel, and his valet Kato investigate a murder connected to Lighthouse Mary's, a notorious waterfront cafe. Reid attends a composing room party there with his secretary Lenore Case, and a brawl erupts that leaves a stranger dead near the door. The dead man is identified as a government agent working on a smuggling case. Reid pursues the people involved, including the cafe's owner and a suspicious man named Bertie Leiden, while the police struggle without enough evidence to act. The Green Hornet operates as a masked crime fighter in the story, and the case is pursued through a series of dangerous encounters at the cafe and on the water. This is the first part of the episode.

The city waterfront and Lighthouse Mary's cafe, the offices of the Daily Sentinel, and the foggy harbor.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
