What happens
Britt Reid, publisher of the Daily Sentinel, and his reporter Mike Axford look into the sudden death of newly elected district attorney Jim Courtney, who fell from a gymnasium ladder. Courtney had vowed to smash the black market, and his death puts his first assistant, Hermann Vinton, in line for the office. A caller claiming to know about the death brings Reid and Axford to Gus Dornberger's home, where Dornberger denies any involvement. Dornberger is out on bail for an assault charge, and his trial is being moved up. Reid and Cato, his valet, begin to suspect that Dornberger knows more than he admits, and they prepare to press him for the truth.
A city where the district attorney's office, the Daily Sentinel, and a gymnasium on Tenth Street are central locations, during wartime.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
