What happens

Brit Reed, a daring young publisher at the Daily Sentinel, looks into the death of Skyler, a man who was about to tell the district attorney about a liquor-smuggling ring. Skyler was struck by a taxi in front of the newspaper building, and the cab driver, Pete, says someone else was driving his cab. Reed and his valet Kato examine the evidence, search the taxi, and visit a run-down office on Tenth Street linked to the smugglers. Their investigation turns toward the men behind the scheme.

A city in the 1940s, centered on the Daily Sentinel newspaper office, a police parking lot, and an old building on Tenth Street.

Characters: Brit Reed, Kato, Skyler, Pete, Sam Bates, Joe, Police Commissioner Higgins, Thorpe

Listen for: Listen for Skyler's warning to Reed about the liquor smuggling, the taxi driver Pete's account of the man in the gray hat, and the scene where Reed and Kato search the cab in the police lot.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
