What happens
Britt Reid, publisher of the Sentinel, and his valet Kato look into anonymous letters claiming a WPA official is taking kickbacks from men seeking jobs. Reporter Gunnegan and Reed follow the trail to Alderman Finney, who offers a story for a share of the money, and then to a WPA worker named Meakin, who has written the letters and is frightened for his job. Meakin is later killed in an apparent accident at a road project, and the police find evidence that suggests otherwise. The Green Hornet, whose black car was seen at the scene, is drawn into the case as the investigation tightens around the men involved in the racket. The series began in the early days of radio, and this episode aired on January 4, 1940.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
