What happens

Britt Reid, publisher of the Daily Sentinel, and his secretary Miss Case look into two payroll checks cashed at a small restaurant, made out to men who appear to be unknown at the paper. Reid learns the checks are forgeries, and the police begin a quiet investigation into a counterfeit check ring. Reid's associate Mike Axford connects the forgeries to a former racketeer named Clifford and his old partners Calvert and Forrest, whose printing shop may be the source of the fake checks. The episode is part of The Green Hornet series, first broadcast on May 11, 1946.

A modern American city, including a small Italian restaurant, the offices of the Daily Sentinel, a print shop on Water Street, and a lakeside cabin and airfield.

Listen for: Reid's deductions about the forged checks and the clues that link the case to Clifford's past.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
