What happens

Gildersleeve, the water commissioner, buys a loud new suit and is pleased with his reflection, but his nephew Leroy and niece Marjorie tease him about his weight. Stung by their jokes, he decides to slim down by any means, turning first to a druggist's reducing remedies and then to a rowing machine at Judge Hooker's house. His household's reactions to his new plan set up the trouble that follows. Willard Waterman plays the title role in this October 18, 1950 episode of The Great Gildersleeve on NBC, with Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle in the cast.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
