What happens

Water Commissioner Gildersleeve is angry after the mayor publicly accuses him of loafing on the job, and he refuses to go to work until the mayor apologizes. He locks himself in his room and ignores his niece, nephew and housekeeper. Friends from the Jolly Boys Club, including Judge Hooker and Floyd, gather at the house to try to persuade him to return. The story is from The Great Gildersleeve, first broadcast on NBC on December 17, 1947, starring Harold Peary.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
