What happens
In the small town of Summerfield, water commissioner Gildersleeve finds himself caught between his best friend Peavey and his boss, the mayor, after the mayor backs into Peavey's car and breaks a headlamp. Each man wants Gildersleeve as a witness in a dispute over the damage, and Gildersleeve tries to smooth things over while avoiding a subpoena. Willard Waterman plays Gildersleeve in this NBC episode of The Great Gildersleeve, first broadcast on October 28, 1953, with Harold Peary and Lurene Tuttle among the lead actors.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
