What happens

Leroy, the nephew of Gildersleeve, rigs the house with wires and a switch, and soon the doorbell and telephone ring at odd times. Gildersleeve blames Leroy when the school bells start ringing constantly, and he confronts the boy. Gildersleeve's romance with school principal Irene Henshaw is also strained by the trouble. The Great Gildersleeve, a radio comedy series, is heard here in its October 21, 1953 broadcast on NBC, with Harold Peary and Willard Waterman among the cast.

Characters: Gildersleeve, Leroy, Bertie, Irene Henshaw, Jensen, Peavey, Birdie, Mr. Morgan

Listen for: The sequence where Leroy wires the doorbell and telephone, and the chain of misunderstandings that follows

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
