What happens

Floyd Munson, the barber, suddenly learns he has inherited money, and the Jolly Boys club members, who had quarrelled with him the night before, begin to notice his changed behaviour. Floyd shuts his barbershop, drives a new convertible, and gives expensive gifts to his friends, including Gildersleeve, who receives an alligator wallet. Gildersleeve, meanwhile, resents Floyd's newfound wealth and says so to Birdie. The members plan a testimonial dinner for Floyd, but when the evening arrives, Floyd admits he has spent all of his inheritance. The Great Gildersleeve is a long-running NBC radio comedy, and this episode, first broadcast on October 20, 1955, stars Harold Peary, with Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle in the cast.

Summerfield, a small town, including the barbershop above which the Jolly Boys meet, and Gildersleeve's home.

Characters: Gildersleeve, Floyd Munson, Birdie, Judge Hooker, Chief Gates, Leroy, Mrs. Peavey, Bertie

Listen for: Floyd's sudden extravagance with his inheritance and the members' shifting opinions of him, which set up the testimonial dinner.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
