What happens

Throughout the story, Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve, a small-town businessman in Summerfield, is named one of the ten best-dressed men in town by a New York fashion guild. Eager to live up to the honor, he buys a suit of expensive Orkney Twist cloth from a tailor, Mr. Leslie, and agrees to pay for it. Gildersleeve's niece Marjorie, his nephew Leroy, and his friend Judge Hooker tease him as his new clothes draw attention. Harold Peary stars as Gildersleeve in this episode, first broadcast on NBC on March 15, 1942, as part of The Great Gildersleeve series.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
